God's Lavish Grace Part Eight: Consider Yourself Dead to Sin

“Some might say, ‘Terry, are you saying if you think it hard enough, it’ll be true? Is it mind over matter?’…No, no, it’s not like that. Consider it true because it is true.

It came home to me the first time I ever flew overseas from the U.K. I went into Spain, and we flew from London Heathrow to Barcelona. As we flew in, the pilot said, ‘Welcome to Barcelona! The time is 4 o’clock.’ And I looked at my watch and it was 3 o’clock. Still working. Perfectly good watch. What’s he talking about?

But when you get into Barcelona, it is 4 o’clock. So, change your watch. When you are in Christ, you have died to sin. So, change your thinking. Line up with reality. By changing my watch, I didn’t make it 4 o’clock. It was 4 o’clock.

If you travel a lot, you’ll find the sooner you get your mind into that new reality, the better. And sometimes, everything about you is saying, ‘What am I doing up now? I should be in bed!’ But the reality is, you’re in a different time zone.

We need to line up with truth, not to make it true, but to live in the reality of truth. Consider it true, because it is true. In Christ, sin’s power is broken. So reckon that to be truth. Line up with it. Let these truths change the way you think about yourself and what God has done for you.”
