Trinity Church VBS - You're Invited!
This article was written by Natasha Austin of Trinity Church (Chicago, IL).
For the past two years, Trinity Church (Chicago) has partnered with One Lamb, our sister church in Nairobi, Kenya, to facilitate a VBS for kids in their church and wider community. I was blessed to be part of the team that helped plan and serve their kids camp last year. Traveling to Nairobi and getting to serve children in a community that I am not part of on a daily basis was unbelievably life-giving, convicting, and fruitful. We’ll be returning with a team again this year, but before we go, Trinity Church is hosting our very first VBS here in CHICAGO!
As a family of churches together on mission, we wanted to share our plans and invite the rest of the Confluence family to join us. Whether you’re interested in attending Trinity’s VBS or serving as a volunteer, you could impact the lives of children who are part of Trinity Church and our surrounding community. (And if you decide to come, we’re open to arranging host homes for individuals and families.)
VBS is scheduled for Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26. Volunteers will probably serve from 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM each day, helping with set-up and clean-up. In conjunction with VBS, we’re planning a “Family Sunday” service for July 28, where children will help lead the congregation in worship. We’ll also have a child-friendly, interactive sermon that will engage kids and speak to the hearts of adults.
Throughout the week, we’ll be using the Roar VBS curriculum from Group, which you can read about here. The publishers write, “Roar VBS is intentionally-designed to give kids the solid foundation of God’s goodness—something they can stand on, cling to, hold, and remember when the wild side of life doesn’t feel so fun or adventurous. “
We would love to have our Confluence family with us on the ground as participants or volunteers, but all of us can participate through prayer. Please be praying for the children who will come, for their hearts to receive the good news of a good God who loves them. And pray that this event will touch the lives of more than just the children who attend, that this VBS will be just the beginning of what God plans to do in and through each of them.
